Name the machine and the drive stage
Identify whether the part belongs to a tractor transmission, PTO, tillage drive, harvester, mower, spreader or seeder. State its position in the power path. Different mechanisms can use similar-looking gears while having different speed, mounting and load requirements.
Connect shafts and splines to the implement
Provide the mating spline or shaft reference and the required fit. Identify rotation direction and any permitted axial movement. If the part is used in a replacement project, include the OEM reference and controlled drawing; appearance alone is not evidence of compatibility.
Describe the working environment
Agricultural machinery can encounter variable resistance, dust, soil, moisture and intermittent or seasonal duty. Explain the relevant operating conditions and the lubrication environment. The supplier still needs the approved material and acceptance requirements, not merely a statement that the gear must be robust.
Clarify component package versus complete gearbox
A request for gears and shafts is different from a request for a housing, bearings, assembly and full-unit testing. List the parts to manufacture and any buyer-supplied items. For a package, include quantities per assembly and the common assembly reference.
State the material and service expectations
Include specified grade, hardness, treatment and surface condition. Identify any critical fits and inspection reports. Where spare parts are required, define marking and part identification so the production and service references remain consistent.
Plan for production and seasonal releases
Provide the initial order, estimated annual requirement and expected release pattern. Include delivery location and packing or labeling needs. A seasonal delivery target should be reviewed with the confirmed component scope and approval sequence before a schedule is committed.
Quick review checklist
| Review item | What to define |
|---|---|
| Machine function | Tractor, PTO, tillage, harvesting or metering |
| Transmission position | Gearbox stage, ratio reference and rotation |
| Interfaces | Spline, shaft, bearing and mounting definition |
| Field duty | Load variation, environment and lubrication |
| Supply plan | BOM, quantities, seasonal release and spare identification |
